Candle Ceremonies.
From their first known use from approximately 3000 BC, candles have been in peoples homes as a mainstay. But for Magic or Ceremonies the humble piece of wick and fat is a self contained magical system that incorporates not only the Fire element, shown by the flame but also the Earth element shown by the unburned wax of the candle, smoke represents the Air and the molten wax pool represents water. This all comes together to create AKASUA, or spirit.
Whether you use a candle simply for yourself as somewhere to create a sacred space or for use in more difficult folk or ceremonial magic is up to you. Either way the whole process should be a spiritual one with only like minded people with you. Any bad atmosphere or closed off energy will negatively affect the ceremony and make your focus harder.
When you have your candle, petroleum if the window is open so you dont inhale the toxic fumes, or if you want to use the power of nature to aid you, then use beeswax or natural plant waxes, then you can choose which oil you would need (Try reading An alphabetical guide for essential oils). Next, carving out the bottom of the candle, or if it is in a glass container, make a gap so you can pour the herb and oils in. Now you can relax for a while until they set. At this point a witch friend of mine, a white witch I have to say, nothing dark about this good woman, always has a bath with a handful of flaked salt thrown in which helps purify the body and releases toxins before returning to the matter at hand.
Sitting comfortably, or laying on the bed or sofa if you like, you light the wick and lay back, then closing your eyes visualise your need. For tips on visualisation visit I Conjure's Visualisation page.
Oils for me are one of the easiest ways of attracting that much needed desire to yourself because as soon as the melt pool is ready (anywhere between twenty minutes and an hour), the chosen scents release into the air around you beginning to draw your desire to you. You can bask in the scents as long as your visualisation lasts, although I do recommend a more concentrated focus at twenty minutes, because this is roughly how long it takes for the body and muscles to relax, however as long as you feel comfortable is okay.
When you have finished, slowly open your eyes and after sitting up you can simply blow out the candle. The blowing out of the flame releases the magical power to the universe and then when you are ready use a pin to dip the wick into the molten wax pool and back up, which leaves the wick primed for when you need to do the whole process again.
Finally, one thing you should remember is that your need is for you and the universe alone, like birthday candle wishes, your desire should never be revealed.
