Egyptians and their use of Perfume Scents.

Since the first tombs in Egypt were opened and the archaeologists saw that the tombs were packed with bottle of scents, and the walls inscribed with the pictures of their uses, modern man has been obsessed with the genius of their uses.

For the ancient Egyptians perfume was the sweet of the Gods. For them burning their incense burners charcoal where they would intermittently place small pastilles of incense, was one of the most important aspects of their daily lives. Watching the grey smoke elevate upwards to the heavens, which they saw as being scented breath, was a link from their world to the immortal heaven. This gave them a connection to where the Gods reside beyond the sky who watched over everything they did.

Each Pharaoh through their succession showed off their power by offering tons of aromatic woods and plant scents to the Gods and Goddesses, each making sure that their feat was recorded in stone. Each year tons and tons of Frankincense and Myrrh were imported from ancient Somalia through Israel via the famous Incense Route from Southern Arabia, the land of the Queen of Sheba.

At that time perfume ingredients were among the most expensive items traded between nations. These prices were not frowned upon because for the ancient Egyptians perfume wasnt a luxury. These perfumes were magical ingredients with the power to bring them closer to spiritual divinity.

There are still gilded secrets in the tomb walls with many of the ancient recipes still needing translation, but some have been translated and are still used today.

Cumin, for instance, was known as Ami. Marjoram was used to adorn Mummies, whereas Myrrh, which looked like tiny droplets, was believed to have been created by the sun god Ra and could ascend back to him and in turn he could see their loyalty, and give them his blessing.

One of the most important scents was the evocative Frankincense. Used in large quantities so that the incense would have a mind altering effect, it was used in smaller quantities for its sedative quality. The ancient Egyptians believed it to be one of the most deeply spiritual saying of it, The one that makes God known.
