Ayurvedic Essential Oils by Martha Box

Find your Ayurvedic type and what essential oils will help balance your energy.

In Ayurveda, the five elements of Space, Earth, Air, Fire and Water generate evrything in the Universe including the body. This creates three different constitutional types, or Doshas. These are known as Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

An imbalanced Dosha is believed to interrupt the natural flow of Pranas or Vital Energy making you feel spiritually and physically depleted.

Use the descriptions below to see which Dosha matches yourself. At the bottom of each description you will find what essential oils can redress the balance.

  Vata Dosha

  • Thin built, small boned.
  • Skin is dry, chaps easily.
  • Hair is dry.
  • Lips are thin.
  • Variable appetite.
  • Mind is active, restless.
  • Anxiety riddled when stressed.
  • Light sleeper.
  • Cold hands.
  • Fearful in life.

Calm and warming essential oils such as Ylang Ylang, Sweet Orange, Frankincense, Clove and Rose Geranium can help.

Either by putting one of these oils in the bath, checking first if it should be used in contact with skin, or placing the oil in a burner, or on a piece of tissue, will help bring your energy or chi into balance.

We suggest our candles ARMOUR, US, EGO.

  Pitta Dosha

  • Medium built.
  • Oily skin, warm sensitive skin, reddish, inflamed.
  • Fine hair, may be balding or premature greying.
  • Soft flexible nails.
  • Strong appetite, can't abide being hungry.
  • Excellent memory.
  • Tends towards anger, frustration or irratability when stressed.
  • Good circulation, perspire frequently.
  • High blood pressure, hypersensitive.

Cool and soothing aromas such as Sandalwood, Mint and Vetivert can aid you.

Either by putting one of these oils in the bath, checking first if it should be used in contact with skin, or placing the oil in a burner, or on a piece of tissue, will help bring your energy or chi into balance.

We suggest our candles GILT, IMMUNE, VIXEN.

  Kapha Dosha

  • Larger bone structure.
  • Overweight.
  • Thick skin.
  • Lips mostly large.
  • Sometimes lethargic.
  • Avoids tense situations.
  • Sound, heavy sleeper.
  • Moderate perspiration.
  • Tendency towards respiratory congestion, water retention and tiredness.

Invigorating oils such as Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Lemon and Juniper will help rejuvenate your Dosha.

Either by putting one of these oils in the bath, checking first if it should be used in contact with skin, or placing the oil in a burner, or on a piece of tissue, will help bring your energy or chi into balance.

We suggest our candles THEM, CURE, REMOVAL.
