Over time the societies of Western nations have generally lost touch with nature in their everyday lives. In our society even medicines based on plants are now manufactured in a clinical way. In times past and in less industrialised societies, plants are still used as the first choice for combating ailments. With these inherent qualities they have been thought of in the highest terms. Most modern world religions still incorporate burnt offerings to their gods as part of normal worship. Different plants have different properties associated with them and are used to create change in those areas. They are also used to create a closer spiritual connection with deities and spirits.
It has become popular to produce candles with the added feature of having a purpose. We use ancient recipes for rituals to give a deeper purpose for our candles. The easiest way to use our candles purpose is to just light one and enjoy the scent. If you want to focus more on the purpose you can create a simple ritual, meditation, or visualisation to do whilst using the candle. There are suggestions for these via the link at the bottom of the page.
We are all well aware of the Earths limited resources. Most candles for sale in the UK are made from paraffin wax which is made from crude oil, so while we are trying to reduce the amount of fuel we use in our cars, we should also avoid using petroleum based candles. Even with soy based candles it isn't as simple as it seems. Although it is a renewable source, it needs to be sourced from ethical suppliers. Much of the worlds soy is grown in South America. The Amazonian Rainforest is often cleared to grow soy beans. Where it is grown on land that has already been cleared in the rainforest, it often replaces more labour intensive farming like cattle ranching. This leads to greater unemployment in the indigenous population. We source our soy wax from America, where it is grown in a sustainable way by an industry that has highly regulated labour laws.
Our essential oils are sourced as locally to the UK as possible. This means less air miles to create our candles and as most are sourced in the EU, the farmers and workers that produce them are protected, ensuring a fair wage.
At I Conjure we use perfume blended essential oil scents which requires the careful balancing of the notes to create a balanced bouquet. We aim to give a superior alternative to the simplistic one and two scent based candles available elsewhere.
Each scent of essential oil has its own note, just like music. Each note must be in harmony with all the others to create a bouquet like a well tuned orchestra. It takes time and patience to blend the right notes in the right quantities to create a symphony of scents that compliment each other. Our complex scents have up to ten different essential oils, which takes a lot longer to blend than the usual one or two scents.
There are many benefits to using natural ingredients over traditional petroleum based waxes and chemical fragrances. Natural soy wax and beeswax don't give off the toxins associated with paraffin wax, making them healthier for you and the planet. Essential oils have been around and used in perfumery long before their lower priced chemical equivalents, fragrance oils were invented. Essential oils are the refined parts of plants where as fragrance oils are chemical approximations. For ritual, meditation or aromatherapy use, essential oils are the only choice and cannot be faked. Properly farmed, natural ingredients are renewable and benefit local growers and producers rather then multinational oil companies.
When burnt, our natural candles have a slow burn because of the soy wax's lower melting point and burn for a lot longer than an equivalent paraffin candle. The biggest differnce comes when you smell the natural scents. They have an entirely unique tone when lit compared to paraffin wax candles. The gentle scent that can easily fill a room lacks the pungent, acrid undertone of paraffin wax.
We make our candles with natural soy wax with just a hint of beeswax. The soy gives the candle a soft creamy appearance which is enhanced by the beeswax's warm honey hues that show beautifully when the candle is lit. As it burns the beeswax also adds a hint of natural sweetness to the scent and the soy's low burning temperature stops the essential oils overheating. All our candles are highly scented and fill your room with a gentle bouquet, burning for approxiamately 60 hours.
The packaging and glass jar your candle comes in have been specifically chosen to be reused or recycled. The Parisien glass has been specifically chosen to be reused after being thoroughly cleaned. Your candle comes in a sealable box that has been chosen for its ability to keep your candle fresh, retaining its high quality scent when not being used.
As pure essential oils can have a physiological effect, we strongly advise anyone who is pregnant or suffering from asthma, high blood pressure, epilepsy or any condition you may think may be affected please consult with your Doctor before making any purchase. In all cases pure essential oil candles should be restricted to a four hour session.
